Our Vision

Welcome to Tamil Learning method based on sounds.

About 4500 languages are spoken in the world today. They are mostly divided into two categories.

letter-based languages.

sound-based languages.

Chinese and Japanese are letter-based languages whereas Tamil is a sound-based language. Tolkappiyar is the first recognized grammarian of Tamil language. He devised some rhythmic grammar structures to join words coined by a set of sounds known as Tamil musical notes. In fact till 18th century Tamil was taught as a musical language. knowingly or unknowingly at present Tamil is taught as a letter-based language with 247 letters.

Moreover the research-based findings of the pronunciation of sounds in any language is known as Phonology or phonetic system. Tamil language has got an unique sound- disciplined phonetic system based on Oliyans. (The basic sound units of the Tamil languages are called oliyans) . Oliyans behave like phonemes. After a deep study of the phonology in Tamil language it is detected all words in Tamil language are pronounced on the basis of 12 vowel oliyans and 18 consonant oliyans. This curriculum aims at learning Tamil as a sound- based language with those 30 oliyans.

Tolkappiyar also wrote grammar structures based on these 30 oliyans. therefore learning Tamil as a sound-based language paves the way for the learners to understand the affluence of Tamil grammar structures clearly.

About us

International Tamil Education Research Institute

International Tamil Education Research Institute is a non-profit organization in England. The core objectives of our organization are to educate and promote the Tamil language, Tamil literature and Tamil cultural values around the world. To begin with we strive to restore Tamil as a musical language with 30 alphabet notes rather than focusing Tamil as a letter-based language with 247 letters.

Thirukural is identified as an universal sacred book complied with valued life principles. Through short stories and descriptions, we propagate Thirukural principles to younger generation.

Topkaliyar is the first formal Tamil language grammarian. We display short videos to watch the beautiful rhythmic grammar structures devised by him.
